Welcome to a new opus of "Offs du JJV"!
I love being able to adapt to you and offer personalized events, sales, and orders based on your interest in board games that are a little off the beaten path.
I'm delighted to see you following me on my sometimes slightly crazy adventure of offering things you don't necessarily see elsewhere in Vaison, France, or Europe!
I knew perfectly well that by specializing in a range of games more original than what my colleagues generally offer, the launch could be a bit risky.
And the first two years were a daily struggle to promote games and small publishers, in addition to a few traditional distributors like Asmodee and Gigamic. Not being fans of the policies of some large distributors towards independent shops, a few of us small shops have chosen to work primarily with other large or small distributors who respect us. When small shops are asked to order as much as large retailers or supermarkets in order to, and I quote, "finally have a decent portfolio," we realize we made the right choice not to favor this major distributor.
We haven't all set out to become ruthless in developing the gaming world or to confuse people by offering ready-made, over-consumed games. Games that will sometimes be played once and then end up gathering dust in closets…
What's really great about the gaming world is that we have other large, small, and medium-sized distributors who treat us with the minimum respect required for a partnership. Even if this disappoints some, mutual respect and a win-win situation are essential values for me in any partnership.
With distributors also recognizing the fun factor, it feels a bit like David versus Goliath, with giants with feet of clay abandoning their creators and small publishing houses along the way because they're no longer profitable enough…
I have principles, and I'll never compromise on them. The moments shared around games are far more interesting than simply collecting unused boxes that don't match our interests but that we bought just because they were trendy…
