Hello everyone!
The Game of Latrunculas
We conquer pawns by capturing them. Some pieces have basic moves, while others are more advanced. We captured pawns based on alignments. We had to both block our opponent's pieces and capture them. Depending on the alignment of our pieces, standard pieces could make oblique moves of one or more squares.
There were two different types of pieces: Thief = soldier. Latrunculas = pawns (more moderate movement than thieves, soldiers). There was a first line of latrunculas and the other of thieves. The pieces were arranged like on a chessboard.
The game was influenced by chess. Latrunculas only moved one square, always forward, and were mainly used to block the opponent's pieces. Thieves could advance several squares, but only obliquely (diagonally). They would be equivalent to the queen and would borrow her moves.
The latrunculas were sometimes made of glass, sometimes of different colors. The pawns are cylindrical. They played on ivory abacuses (boards). The pieces must support each other to be able to attack another piece. One latruncula must be supported by another, and one thief by another.
Have a good day and good game ;)
