Hello everyone!
Snow White could be inspired by a true story: the tragic life of Margaretha von Waldeck.
Snow White is the quintessential fairy tale. A princess of fatal beauty, a jealous queen, a poisoned apple... A timeless tale, passed down from generation to generation. But in February 2024, archaeology enters the legend. A discovered grave revives a disturbing hypothesis: what if Snow White wasn't just a myth?
Margaretha von Waldeck was born in 1533 and is the daughter of Philip IV, Count of Waldeck-Wildungen, an influential nobleman. Her mother died when she was only four years old. Her father quickly remarried Katharina von Hatzfeld, an aristocrat known for her beauty. But she despised the children from her husband's first marriage. Margaretha grew up in a bitter family atmosphere.
At 16, she was sent to Brussels where she joined the court of Mary of Hungary. In Brussels, Margaretha quickly attracted the attention of the nobility. Among her suitors was Philip II, son of Charles V and heir to the throne of Spain. Their relationship became a matter of political concern. A marriage between them would be unacceptable. Margaretha lacked the required rank.
It was in this context that Margaretha suddenly fell ill in 1554, at only 21 years old. Her condition deteriorated rapidly, and she died under suspicious circumstances. Her will, written in a trembling hand, fueled suspicions: was she poisoned? And by whom? Some suggest an assassination orchestrated by the Spanish court to ward off an unwanted suitor. Others believe it was her mother-in-law's hand.
Good day and good game ;)
