Hello everyone!

The True Story of Little Red Riding Hood

Most of the tales left to us by the Brothers Grimm, as well as Charles Perrault, are inspired by local legends and traditions spread throughout Europe during the Middle Ages.

In 1697, Charles Perrault was the first to recover the story of Little Red Riding Hood. He must have included it in his collection of folk tales, knowing that it was one of the least known among Europeans.

This story originates in a remote region of the Alps. In the legend, our protagonist is a teenager, a young girl who has just entered the adult world, hence the red hood, a symbol of the feminine cycle.

The forest is a danger zone for young people. It represents a test, a rite of passage within a community, through which it is demonstrated that children have entered the adult world.

The main threat in this forest is the figure of the wolf, an animal that symbolizes barbarity and irrationality. Something Little Red Riding Hood already knows and must face. The young girl manages to cross the woods and arrives happily at her grandmother's house, who takes her into her bed because she is sick.

The sick grandmother tells the girl in Red Riding Hood to put away the bread and milk and eat the meat prepared for her in the kitchen. Little Red Riding Hood devours her with appetite, fills up, and then follows the old woman's second order: she must take off her clothes, one after the other, and throw them into the fire, then lie down with her in her bed. The diligent girl does so without question, without thinking there is anything strange about this situation.

Just as she is about to go to bed, she discovers that the one welcoming her amidst laughter is the wolf, who reveals to her that the meat she has just eaten belonged to her sick grandmother. She committed a grave sin: cannibalism. Later, the wolf devours Little Red Riding Hood. The symbolism is present in each character: the wolf represents the sexual and violent world. The old woman devoured by the young girl represents the succession of generations. As you can see, one of the most classic and beloved fairy tales of our childhood actually hides a profoundly dark side.

Good day and good game ;)
