Gardeners is a simultaneous cooperative game played silently and in real time. In less than 15 minutes, players must arrange as many gardens as possible, each composed of the same 36 tiles, but with different rules each turn.
Each player must deduce the current rules by observing where the tiles are placed and where some are removed. A game of Gardeners consists of an unlimited number of turns.
Each turn is divided into 5 phases, as follows: Draw a Constraint card, Start the hourglass, Arrange the garden, Check the garden, Prepare for the next turn.
In turn, you must secretly look at a Constraint card, which details the king's wish on the front. The back only shows a brief description of the constraint.
Everyone will now work together to design the garden by arranging their tiles in a 6x6 square. The garden will always be a square as its final shape, but the rules will differ from round to round.
Verbal communication is strictly forbidden. However, it is possible to remove tiles played by others to show them what is correct and what is not. By doing so, you will deduce the rules by observing where the tiles are placed and where they will be removed.
When checking the garden, the person with the first constraint card will confirm its completion by announcing, "Her Majesty is overjoyed!" The constraint card is not revealed at this stage.
A new round can then begin based on the first garden. The next person then draws a new constraint card, and the second round begins in the same way.
But be careful, you must be vigilant when modifying the garden layout to ensure the king's first constraint remains in effect. If this isn't the case, during the second round's verification, the player with the first constraint may have to say "His Majesty is angry!" if the constraints on their card are no longer valid.
Cards are either validated or invalidated once they exceed three constraints.
When the hourglass runs out, you will count the number of cards played, each worth 1 victory point. Then refer to the scoreboard to check your progress with a "ouch!" for 0 points to "You have become an Expert!" for +15 points.
During the game, players may not communicate about what to do or not do to create the garden. Will you be able to satisfy the king's whimsical desires?
